Rumors Afloat About PSP2

Written by

News surfaces in the most unlikely of places. In an interview with Mortal Kombat Executive Shaun Himmerick regarding the series's reboot, the man revealed they were working on the PSP2 engine and tinkering with it. Not the 3DS, which is Nintendo's sequel to the DSi (but they are looking into it, according to the article). While there were previous rumors that the next generation of Playstation Portables would hit in 2011, Sony hasn't commented and are keeping mum about any development.

If Mortal Kombat's developers have their hands on a PSP2 developmental kit, then which other developers have them as well?

Not surprising, since the latest addition to the PSP family, the PSP Go has had a lukewarm response stateside.

NYAF/NYCC Gaming: Nintendo

Written by

This year's convention floor held a major gaming presence. Most of the biggest games of 2010 were being shown, and some were even demoed. However, nestled in the rear portion of the show floor was Nintendo's booth, the only gaming booth that was able to rival Capcom's booth in interactivity. Nintendo was showing off their three most sought-after titles, Golden Sun 3, Kirby's Epic Yarn, and Donkey Kong Country Returns. I got to play all of them.

Check out our sneek peaks after the jump.

Japan Gets Birth by Sleep Final Mix, We Don't

Written by

Just a week after Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep hit North American shores, amidst all the chaos that is the Tokyo Game Show, Tetsuya Nomura (the Creator of Kingdom Hearts) has already gone back on his word. Originally he stated that he had no plans to make a Birth by Sleep Final Mix, and that the NA/EU release would feature an exclusive secret boss Japanese gamers felt was simply too hard even fight.

Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto now admits that Japan will indeed be receiving the coveted final mix title January 2011, complete with all of our exclusives as well as many new ones. Details are scarce but a video shown at the Tokyo Game Show reveals a brand new Mirage Arena: Monstro location as well as a Monstro Boss fight, a new armored figure (which seems to be a brand new boss battle), a secret episode (the details of which are unsurprisingly secret right now) and a code that will allow you to download a Kingdom Hearts version of Cloud for the new Dissidia Doudecium 2012 game. Fortunately the PSP isn't region locked, so if you haven't brought Birth by Sleep yet and wish to experience all of the amazing extra's you can just import it and start playing on your PSP like nothing ever happened.

The big Final Fantasy TGS update!

Written by

(Lightning is not amused.)

Well, because you readers might be sick to death about me spewing out Final Fantasy/Dissidia, I have decided to consolidate all the TGS updates on them into one giant post.

First off, even though Square-Enix has a horrible track record of making their trailers closed-audiences, there are always people sneaking footage out. And this year will be no exceptions. I will link the videos from THIS POST, in which the Versus XIII and Agito trailers are leaked. Obviously it was taken by camera, so expect shakiness and low quality of the video. It's a good thing the videos (as of now) haven't been taken down yet nor the people caught.

Further news would have to be in January, as Square-Enix hosts the "Fabula Nova Crystallis Conference" to address developments in Versus and Agito. Other than that, there isn't much to go on right now, but Jump Festa is just around the corner.

In Dissidia Duodecim news, there are gameplay videos online as well as plenty of screenshots.

Rachael Leigh Cook, over twitter, confirmed she is returning as Tifa's (Final Fantasy VII) voice actress in Duodecim. (The tweet in question, and the response).

Bobby Edner, who voices Vaan (Final Fantasy XII) could be in the game, but it's not really confirmed. Not as much as Tifa.

There was a closed trailer of Dissidia Duodecim with English subs floating around in the interwebs, but youtube has taken it down. (It can be downloaded if you know where to find it.) However, there is video of Lightning's gameplay, hosted by IGN.

Footage of Kain's moves is provided by Gametrailers, including his EX-burst "Pride of Dragoons".

Famitsu have posted screenshots; an interesting one would be Lightning shooting Squall in "around the crotch area", as seen here:

What Lightning is donning is her second alternate outfit, taken from the protagonist of the Parasite Eve series, Aya Brea. Aya Brea, in turn, will be taking Lightning's normal outfit, in The 3rd Birthday. Personally, I didn't know Lightning would be into distressed jeans, nor fashion in general.

Last, but not least, one of the earlier videos was Warrior of Light (FFI) vs. Squall of VIII fame, hosted by 1up.com.

Versus XIII is going to be on the PS3, Duodecim on the PSP, and Agito on the PSP as well.

Nintendo 3DS Slide Pad Attachment is a "Secret"

Written by

Found in a Famitsu Magazine article, there is a small section for Monster Hunter 3 G which showcases the Slide Pad attachment for the Nintendo DS. Written as 拡張スライドパッド / Kakuchou Slide Pad or "Slide Pad Expansion", the attachment gives it an additional pad on the right side and makes it that much more clunky to carry around and use. However, it is said that the Slide Pad is simple to install; it's as easy as mounting the 3DS onto the Slide Pad, holding it in place on the hinges in the back. It is long overdue to add this second pad, but better late than never... if it's cheap.

There is no mention of the cost or release date for this thing, but after the 3DS price cut, this (hopefully optional) accessory might be a factor in bumping the prices back up there.

[PSP] More Dissidia News!

Written by

Taken from 1up.com

TGS has already begun, but the live portions are beginning in just a few hours (as of me typing this).

1up.com has an interview with Tetsuya Nomura regarding more details about Dissidia Duodecim, the sequel to the first Dissidia. Earlier, I reported that Lightning of XIII fame and Kain Highwind of IV will be making an appearance. Now Nomura has stated that the gameplay will be revamped to help fit XIII's paradigm system into the Dissidia style of controls.

Read more after the jump.
