A Pokemon Game... With Nobunaga in It?

Written by

Hey guys, there's a new Pokemon game coming out soon! "Oh," you might think, "It's just gonna be Gray version or Beryl version or Jade version or whatever color/gem version of the same old catch-them-all formula, right?" Wrong. Well, not completely. You still have to catch them all, because otherwise it just wouldn't be Pokemon. This time, however, you're not some kid from some random hick town who's going out into the world of Pokemon for the first time - you're gonna become a general who can go up against the likes of Oda Nobunaga.

What.

The male character on the very left is if you play as a male general. Right of him is the female general.

But Pokemon + Nobunaga's Ambition for the Nintendo DS (yes, DS) will let you do exactly that. A crossover between the Pokemon and Nobunaga's Ambition series, Pokemon + Nobunaga's Ambition will have you become a general (either male or female) whose goal is to unite the region of Ranse through battling rival generals such as Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Akechi Mitsuhide. With Pokemon. In a fictional version of the Warring States period of Feudal Japan. Yes, this is pretty weird. Oh, and one of the generals uses a Mewtwo. What anachronistic stew?

Gameplay-wise, combat takes place via six-on-six battles on maps like those found in tactical RPGs where players can strategically place their Pokemon to do the most damage. Each Pokemon in a six-member team is commanded by a general, whose special ability - "busho power" - can aid their Pokemon in some way, such as healing them. Generals can be recruited and new Pokemon obtained through "linking" with wild Pokemon in some way. Story details are scant, though it doesn't take much to guess that the game will be based on the Warring States period somehow.

The game will be released on March 17th in Japan. It is currently unknown whether the game will be released overseas. Though it really should.
