Maso Monday: AKB48 Goes Interstellar

What better way to start off a Maso Monday article than by writing it at 5am? Personally, I don't usually do one episode "reviews", just because I haven't seen the complete package to warrant a judgment. Perhaps I can make the case for AKB0048. But first some background information!

AKB48 is one of the most popular idol groups in Japan today. Not only do their singles constantly chart up to number one on the Oricon, but they have a legion of loyal fans who can still visit them daily in Akihabara. AKB48 is the founding branch by veteran producer Yasushi Akimoto--some other "sister" groups such as SKE48 (Nagoya), NMB48 (Osaka) also are popular. They've even gone international-- JKT48 (Jakarta), TPE48 (Taipei) and of course the upcoming SNH48, based in Shanghai.

Maso Mondays: Boku no Pico

Whoo boy… Boku no Pico. As the newest editor here at leetNEET, when it was finally my turn to face the trials of Maso Mondays… I had no clue what to choose. So I did the next best thing and took the first suggestion I fielded from the other editors. This is what I found myself watching at 12 am on a Saturday night.

Boku no Pico is an extensive 30+ min OVA of cute boy love. The story follows the summer activities of a very effeminate blond pre-pubescent boy named Pico. He’s slaving away at BeBe, a bar his grandfather owns, during the summer. Why a bar? Obviously, the grandfather wanted to make money by dangling this morsel of cute innocence in front of any customers willing to take the bait. What other reason is there for a young boy to be wearing a frilly pink apron at a beach bar? WHAT OTHER REASON!?

Maso Monday: Camp Rock

Disney's movie Camp Rock (2008) stars actress Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers (Joe, Kevin and Nick) in a family-friendly, comedy / musical that is perfect for younger kids.

The movie is about a young girl who wants to go to a rock camp (Camp Rock) because she wants to be a singer. When she first asks her mother if she can go her mother denies her because of the parents' financial struggles. Mitchie Torres (who is played by Demi) then goes to school quite upset because it is the last day of school and she has no idea what she is going to do with her summer. When she returns home after school her parents surprise her by letting her know she will be able to go to Camp Rock with her mother's catering company as long as she helps out in the kitchen a bit when she is there. (So... as you can tell the plot is very cliche so far...)

*THIS ARTICLE MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS (for two mediocre films)*

Hello everyone, and even thought it may not be Monday, please enjoy my Maso Mondays article! I know some of you may have expected a gaming-related story, but I felt like this was just something I had to do. Today I will be talking about a cinematic phenomenon known as Paranormal Activity and its sequel. While this may not be a review, I will be pointing out why I believe these movies are ridiculously overrated and dumb to watch. I saw the first movie in October with a few of my friends, after hearing about how great and terrifying it was. I had never seen a horror movie in a theater before, as I had always watched them at home. Paranormal Activity presents itself as bits and pieces of home movies (which most people fell for during the Blair Witch Project, which is now a bit over a decade old.) The couple installs a video camera into their bedroom, and every few nights something strange happens on the camera. In between, there are daytime scenes where everything is usually normal. Really, that's the entire movie.

Maso Mondays: Desert Bus Review

When figuring out what kind of torture to subject myself to for Maso Mondays, I thought that a game would be better than a movie since I would have to pay attention for a movie. I just happened to pick the game that made me realize that a movie would have been easier on me.

Maso Monday: Never Say Never Edition

I have never truly liked nor disliked Justin Bieber’s music as many do. I was neutral, however many of my peers *cough*SolidX*cough* and many other contributors to the site dislike Justin Bieber with a red hot burning passion. So with that idea I chose the teen pop star’s movie, Never Say Never for Maso Monday.

I went into the movie with some apprehension. First I could not find any version of the movie that wasn't screening in 3D. I ended up shelling out the extra dough for the 3D ticket. I was pissed that I had to pay to watch it in 3D. Damn you Disney! Not every movie needs to be in 3D, especially this one! Never say Never is a documentary. However, considering its subject matter and target audience, it has different standards than that of other films.

Maso Mondays: The Room

O hai, readers. Welcome to Maso-Mondays. How I think of you fondly, despite only joining the site less than a year ago. Hmm? What’s that? I have to be subjugated to an abysmal piece of media that’ll surely crush all reason for me to live? Wonderful! And, boy, do I have the movie for the job. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you:

The Room
The Room

“Don’t worry about it.” Oh, how I wish.

What is there to say about The Room? A cult classic amongst film and internet circles, this independent movie has been described as the Citizen Kane of bad movies with its piss-poor acting, lousy editing, hilarious dialogue, obvious plot holes, and just all around terribleness. And all of this brought to you by the unintelligible actor/writer/producer/director quadruple threat, Tommy Wiseau.

Sounds like fun! Let’s get started.

The movie begins with some lovely shots of San Francisco. Symbolism, anyone? Anyway, we are introduced our main character Johnny, played by our quadruple threat! And, right off the bat, you can see why this movie is so infamously horrible. Mr. Wiseau, sir?

You.
Can’t.
Act.

I consider myself a Tekken fan — sometimes really fanatic, sometimes a simple button masher. And I also consider myself having a high bullshit threshold, although it's quite debatable because I filter rubbish before I think of watching. So obviously, if I do decide to watch horrible movies, it’s because I don’t care or because I love the series/game, etc. For example, Dragonball Evolution or Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. Before I watched it, I expected Tekken the live action movie to be no better. And I was right.

Maso Mondays: Koe de Oshigoto!

Welcome back to Maso Mondays, the only feature where we need to hire new staff after each review due to a high rate of suicide. Maso Mondays, are that time of year where we pick up the worst of the worst in Games, Anime and Movies and then review them while trying not to scream bloody murder.

Just like last year's Hinako incident, I'll be kicking things off. As many of you know I have a severe aversion to extreme fanservice and ecchi that borders on hentai. Which means it's time to dive in to the Koe de Oshigoto! OVA.

Before starting I wasn't not too familiar with Koe de Oshigoto!. I saw cute character designs and heard that it was the adaptation of a funny manga. What can go wrong? Well, apparently Koe de Oshigoto! is a story about a girl who was asked to become an eroge voice actress. This is going to be tough assignment.

Twilight: The New Piece of Crap

For this week of Maso Monday AdminX and Exile (who was recently revived for this event) collaborated to bring you a special Maso Monday article. Both of us will submit articles about Twilight the New Moon, which is critically acclaimed to be absolute crap. (If you can't tell yet, I agree.) Before I watched this horrible movie I had the standard 5.6 liters of blood in my system but by the end I had lost about 3 liters from puking blood and slicing my wrists. The movie was the worst movie I have ever seen so read on to find out why.

*sarcasm* Damn he's so sexy next to that Volvo *sarcasm*

The movie begins by showing us the couple of Edward (the gay emo vampire) and Bella who wants to become a vampire herself so she can never age and live with Edward forever. The movie starts off with Bella celebrating her 18th birthday. The only people celebrating her birthday are Edward’s family members which clearly shows how great of a social life she has. Once she starts to open her presents she gets a paper cut from gift wrap because she probably uses lotion on those hands 20 hours a day to get her skin that thin and soft. She bleeds about 10 ml of blood from a paper cut from gift wrap because we all know how sharp gift wrap paper is. This is when Edward’s brother goes crazy and tries to kill her because he smells blood.
