It's a new season, and so begins a bout of licensing announcements. Sentai Filmworks announced at Anime Boston on Saturday that they have acquired the streaming and home video rights to Sakamichi no Apollon (Kids on the Slope) and Nazo no Kanojo X (Mysterious Girlfriend X). Both series have already been licensed for streaming by Crunchyroll. As a result, Sentai Filmworks plans on streaming each episode on The Anime Network and Hulu 31 days after they first premiere on Crunchy.
Alright my non-American friends, take your bandwidth caps off, we're in for a wild ride. Anime streaming site, Crunchyroll has added full 1080p streaming for some of their anime titles. As of press time, we are not aware of any other anime streaming site that allows this kind of bandwidth abusing but eye pleasing streaming.
They plan to offer the 1080p option to paid subscribers, starting with approximately 20 titles which include Naruto Shippuden, Bleach & Nisemonogatari. HD-philes should probably take note that it's rare for 1080p to even be broadcast on TV so it's possible that Crunchy's 1080p option is really an upscale from either 720p or 1080i.

Listen to me readers, I am your reporter. Crunchyroll is cutting it very close with these licensing announcements. They announced just some time ago that they will be simulcasting Papa no Iu Koto o Kikinasai! (Listen to me Girls, I am Your Father!) starting today at 1 PM EST. They will be making the anime series which is based on a light novel and has an upcoming game, available to viewers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. You can find a PV and the official synopsis below.
Following up on their earlier simulcasting announcements, Crunchyroll has revealed that they have the digital distribution rights for the fourth and final installment in the Zero no Tsukaima franchise, Zero no Tsukaima F. The series is scheduled to air in Japan starting January 7 and will begin streaming in North America at noon on January 8.
The entire cast is returning to their previous roles for the series along with new members for new characters. Ichiko who has performed the opening theme for each season of the anime is also returning to the this season's opening theme, "I'll Be There For You" (which is not the opening theme song to Friends).
NIS America announced yesterday that they have acquired the distribution rights to BRAVE10 in North America. Furthermore, in what shouldn't be a surprise by this point, BRAVE10 will be simulcasting on Crunchyroll starting January 10, 2012. The series is a modernized interpretation of Sanada Ten Braves, a historically popular novel about a noble group of ninjas. The series stars popular voice actors such as Daisuke Ono (Shizuo in Durarara!), Tetsuya Kakihara (Simon in Gurren Lagann) & Rina Satou (Mikoto Miskaka in To aru Kagaku no Railgun). Check out a trailer and brief synopsis after the jump.
It may be the dead of winter here in New York but somewhere deep inside, we're all "waiting for summer". Conveniently Crunchyroll has grabbed up our hopes in their latest round of simulcasting announcements. Crunchy will be simulcasting upcoming 12 episode winter anime, Ano Natsu de Matteru (Waiting in the Summer) starting January 11, 2012. Furthermore, Sentai Filmworks has licensed the series for digital distribution and DVD release later this year.
The series, which premieres January 9th in Japan, is being storyboarded by Onegai Teacher's Yousuke Kuroda, with original charachter design by fellow Onegai-staff Taraku Uon. If that isn't enough to get you expecting great things, Ano Natsu will be directed by Tatsuyuku Naga with charachter design by Masayoshi Tanaka (who previously worked together to bring us Toradora! and Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai). Check out an official description and trailer for the upcoming romantic comedy below.
Sentai Filmworks announced yesterday that the upcoming Winter 2011 series about bodacious babes buccaneering for intergalactic booty has been licensed for both DVD & BluRay. Alliterations aside, as if it were unexpected, Crunchyroll will be simulcasting the series starting January 7, 2012 at 12 PM EST. It seems like Sentai has a lot of confidence in the series to license it for BluRay before it even airs. Check out a brief description of the series and a trailer below and let us know what you think.
It's the start of another new anime season and that means Crunchyroll will spend the next 3 weeks slowly listing every single show they'll be simulcasting. While they take their time, we'll try to group them up. (Don't get any ideas! It's not like I'm doing i-it for you or anything!) Anyway, Crunchyroll has announced that they they will be simulcasting both Kimi to Boku (You and I) and Fate/Zero.
Fate/Zero as you might know is the prequel to Fate Stay/Night. As for Kimi to Boku it's based on a manga of the same name by Kichi Hotta. The story follows four friends in high school who've known each other since they were kids. They take a half-Japanese transfer student into their group pf friends. From the sound of things think of your favorite slice of life series in which nothing happens, and replace all the characters with guys.
