VOCALOID3 KAITO Announced at NYCC 2012

Written by

NEW YORK — At New York Comic Con 2012's Crypton Future Media: Hatsune Miku panel, Crypton's Director of Global Marketing, Kanae Muraki, announced that they will be releasing a new version of KAITO using the VOCALOID3 engine. The new KAITO will come with 3 voice banks, two of which are called Normal and Whisper and are in Japanese. The third voice bank, notably, will be an English-language one, marking the first time KAITO will sing in English.

Muraki, who was taking the place of Crypton's CEO since he could not attend the panel this year, then unveiled never-before-heard-of previews of each of the announced KAITO voice databases. The Normal database was demonstrated with Sigotoshite P's Kogane no ha ga mau koroni, followed by a demonstration of the Whisper database using Wandara P's Karakuri dokei to koi no hanashi. The attendees at the panel reacted well to these demonstrations, with much applause.

Once the Normal and Whisper demonstrations were complete, a preview of the English version of KAITO was demonstrated using a song called Lately Whenever. Muraki noted that "this song was a little bit high pitched", a statement with which the crowd seemed to agree. However, she also assured everyone that KAITO's English voice bank normally sounds deeper.

The songs used in the demonstration are unfortunately not available at the time of writing, since they were prepared specifically for the panel. However, we have video footage (located below) in which they can be heard. The new KAITO has an expected release date towards the end of 2012 or the beginning of 2013.
