A flyer that comes with NisiOisin's latest light novel, Tsukimonogatari, revealed that studio Shaft's next anime adaptation of the "Monogatari" series, Nekomonogatari (Black), will be a TV anime. Nekomonogatari (Black) covers the Tsubasa Family's story, and focuses on Tsubasa Hanekawa. It is set in between Kizumonogatari and Bakemonogatari.

The series will be pre-screened on December 29th in Tokyo at a special event before the anime airs. This leads many to believe that the series will be announced for the Winter 2012-13 season. Nekomonogatari (Black) is the end of the "first season" of anime adaptations based on NisiOisin's light novels. The series is broken up into three "seasons" with Tsukimonogatari being the first novel in the third season. The structure of the series is outlined below.
