While our coverage of Hayate has been extensive, we're still very much in the dark as to what the series itself will entail. Unlike the previous two anime adaptations, Can't Take My Eyes Off Youis an original story with direct oversight coming from mangaka Hata Kenjiro. (Something which they happen to mention in the first TV ad up above.) Judging from the promotional images and videos released thus far it's safe to assume that characters from the more recent chapters of the manga series will appear in central roles to the series. For those unfamiliar with the series and characters though, there's a high-level overview if you continue to read on.
Hayate no Gotoku follows titular character Hayate Ayasaki, a young boy with terrible luck, whose parents left him a massive debt. One day he meets a rich-looking girl in a park and figures if he kidnaps her, he can hold her for ransom and use the money to clear his debts. However, she mistakes this as a confession of love, and winds up paying off his debt in exchange for him working as her butler. Then hilarity ensues as a large cast of quirky characters and unfortunate misunderstandings claim the rest of his days.
