Drawn by Owada Hideki, Bucchigiri Ca is a comedy manga that follows the day-to-day efforts of the cabin attendants of the fictional Fuji Airlines. (This is probably in reference to the domestic carrier Fuji Dream Airlines.) Specifically, it starts with new flight attendant Yamane Rin and how she learns the tricks of the trade from Hanazono. In Owada’s world, behind that gentle face of a flight attendant is a battle-scarred warrior who has seen it all. Hanazono is the epitome of that flight attendant, drawing upon her experiences, not only as a delinquent, but from her family’s long history in the service industry. Unruly passengers, cocky pilots' rivalries with other crews – this is just another day at the airport.
Owada makes the humor flow by making every reaction to a problem as over-the-top as possible (without blowing up the plane of course). Need to figure out how much vacation time everyone gets? Settle it with a mahjong completion a la “Legend of Kozumi” style. Belligerent passenger not leaving the restroom? Rip down the door and beat them over the head with their own phone. Male passenger assaulting another flight attendant? Team up with the pilot to punish the culprit while in zero gravity. If you’re crazy enough to cause a problem on Fuji Airlines, then you’re at the mercy of their flight attendants, which are both shocking and hilarious to read about. Owada’s style of overblown facial expressions and cultural references helps to reinforce the insanity of it all. If you feel like flying, fly with Fuji Airlines and maybe you’ll see the Bucchigiri Cabin Attendant in action!

Passengers, looks like we’ve got some badass flight attendants flying with us today…
