Yesterday we realized Sentai Filmworks has been on a licensing spree withTsuritama and Tasogare Otome x Amnesia, so we started wondering, what else they might have licensed this season. It turns out that on top of licensing Mysterious Girlfriend X and Sakamichi no Apollon, they've also licensed Medaka Box and Queen's Blade: Rebellion for home video and digital distribution.

You can see trailers and series descriptions below the jump.

Sentia FIlmworks is in a licensing frenzy. Last week they announced that they have picked up the North American licenses for both home video and digital distribution of two of this season's most anticipated series, Tsuritama and Tasogare Otome×Amnsia (or in English, Dusk maiden of Amnesia). Tsuritama is currently airing as part of the Noitamina animation block and is directed by Kenji Nakamura of Ayakashi fame. Tasogare Otome is a mystery series being directed by Shin Oonuma (ef ~ a tale of memories) with character designs by Yukiko Ban of .hack//SIGN.

It's a new season, and so begins a bout of licensing announcements. Sentai Filmworks announced at Anime Boston on Saturday that they have acquired the streaming and home video rights to Sakamichi no Apollon (Kids on the Slope) and Nazo no Kanojo X (Mysterious Girlfriend X). Both series have already been licensed for streaming by Crunchyroll. As a result, Sentai Filmworks plans on streaming each episode on The Anime Network and Hulu 31 days after they first premiere on Crunchy.

FUNImation Now Has 'Very Many Friends'

Written by

Funimation announced at Ohayocon, last week that they have acquired additional rights to the popular series from last season, Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai (I Don't Have Very Many Friends) which is known as Haganai for short. Although the company originally had the streaming rights to the series, they have now added broadcast, home entertainment, merchandising, mobile and additional streaming rights to their arsenal. Furthermore, a DVD and Blu-Ray release is already planned for the anime which is based on a series of light novels by the same name.

Sentai Filmworks announced yesterday that the upcoming Winter 2011 series about bodacious babes buccaneering for intergalactic booty has been licensed for both DVD & BluRay. Alliterations aside, as if it were unexpected, Crunchyroll will be simulcasting the series starting January 7, 2012 at 12 PM EST. It seems like Sentai has a lot of confidence in the series to license it for BluRay before it even airs. Check out a brief description of the series and a trailer below and let us know what you think.

Makoto Shinkai's Film, Hoshi o Ou Kodomo, Licensed

Written by

If you've been dying to watch Makoto Shinkai's latest film and didn't see it at the Waterloo Festival of Animated Cinema (WFAC) in Canada since it was canceled, don't fret. The reason it was canceled is because it's been licensed in North America. Details of the license are currently unknown. They did not even reveal the name of the license holder. Luckily, some of our staff managed to see the film at NYCC and we guarantee it's worth the wait.

The film follows a young girl named Asuna who befriends a mysterious boy named Shu. When Shu dies, Asuana sets out on a journey to understand loss.
