Fall 2012 Anime Previews: Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo

Written by

Continuing with our Fall 2012 anime previews comes Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo, a light novel adaptation being animated by J.C. Staff.

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo is a romantic comedy originally written by Hajime Kamoshida. The story follows an art student named Sorata Kanda who lives in Sakurasou, a dorm for problem children at his school. One day, Mashiro Shiina, a cute and brilliant artist moves in to Sakurasou. Sorata, thinks to himself that he should protect Mashiro from Sakurasou's residents, but to his surprise he has to protect her from herself. She's incapable of taking care of herself, and soon Sorata's friends appoint him her "master". It's now up to him to look after her the way a master looks after his pet.

They say not to judge a light-novel by its cover, but in this case if you did, you would naturally expect something light-hearted and funny. However, if we go by the description of the series instead, it sounds a bit off-putting and probably doesn't do the series much justice. But, after taking a look at the PV, it's safe to say that it may have the kind of potential that a cross between Nodame Cantabile and Zero no Tsukaima would have. Whether that's a good or bad thing is a completely different discussion. With J.C. Staff animating and Mari Okada (Toradora!, GOSICK) in charge of the scripts, it might be worth giving a chance.
